Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger
Fighting hunger through education, outreach and advocacy.
There is no magic bullet to end hunger in our region.
That's why the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger takes a comprehensive, multipronged approach to fighting hunger that includes education, outreach and advocacy.
We build the capacity of food pantries and soup kitchens, so these vital programs can feed more people who urgently need food. We help eligible Philadelphia residents obtain food stamps (SNAP), so they can buy groceries in a dignified manner and work toward self-sufficiency. And we advocate for responsible policies on the local, state and federal levels to reduce hunger in our communities and prevent children, seniors and families from having to worry about where the next meal will come from.
We accomplish this through our three programs, which address a spectrum of needs in the greater Philadelphia region:
Through our Hunger Fighters Network, we support many of the 700 food pantries in the region. The Coalition provides them with funding, training and other resources, so they can feed more people more efficiently and strengthen their communities.
Through our SNAP (Food Stamp) Campaign, we help eligible Philadelphians apply for SNAP. Since 2002, we've assisted nearly 40,000 families and continue to screen 7,000 residents every year, mainly through our Food Stamp (SNAP) Hotline.
Through our Policy Center, we apply the data and experiences gained on the front lines to advocate for responsible policies that meet the real need in our communities. The Coalition advocates on city, state and national issues that affect hunger.
