Pacific Immigrant Resources Society works to ensure that immigrant women and their preschool children can participate fully in Canadian community life.

Role:

to assist the ESL teacher in the day-to-day activities of the class

Duties:

Help the women feel comfortable and welcome.

Chat with the women at break time

Assist students one-on-one and in small groups

Commitment:

one morning or afternoon a week for 3 months (Sept-Dec, Jan-March, April-June)

Requirements:

Strong interest in multiculturalism

Understanding and belief in diversity

Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of immigrant families

A warm and positive attitude

Understanding and appreciation of the learning needs of adults

Classes are held in schools, community centres and neighbourhood houses across East and South Vancouver, as well as Burnaby and New Westminster.
