Canadian Virtual Hospice
The Canadian Virtual Hospice provides support and personalized information about palliative and end-of-life care, loss and grief to patients, family members, health care providers, researchers and educators.
Visitors to Virtual Hospice can find information about managing symptoms, emotional and spiritual care, caregiving, decision-making, living wills, financial assistance and a range of other issues. The Ask a Professional feature allows Canadians to pose a question to an expert in palliative care and receive a detailed, personal and confidential response within 3 working days. The team of experts includes palliative care physicians, nurses, a social worker and a spiritual care advisor. Asked and Answered features over 80 questions asked by Canadians and answered by the team of experts (all identifying information has been removed to protect confidentiality).
Programs and Services provides links to more than 600 programs and services across Canada. Books, Links and More outlines over 800 resources recommended by the clinical team. Your Stories enables Canadians to share their experiences with palliative care and to learn from and find strength in others stories. In addition there is a Glossary of common palliative care terms, discussion boards for linking with other Canadians and many other features. The information and support offered helps provide clarity in times of confusion, offers compassion in times of isolation, and reassurance in times of anxiety.
This service is free of charge and is available in both official languages.
