Alberta Council on Aging
Alberta Council on Aging (ACA) is a voluntary organization who's membership is comprised of groups, individuals and agencies in the province of Alberta. It seeks to increase the understanding of the impacts of aging on both individuals and society. ACA works for changes, both social and individual, in order to enhance the participation of Seniors as active members of society.
ACA's membership is comprised of more than 3000 individual members and 200 Senior's groups and agencies as organizational members. ACA is Alberta's only provincial non-profit, charitable, non-government umbrella organization representing Seniors. Funding is obtained through donations, grants and memberships.
Founded in 1967, ACA represents and supports Seniors in both rural and urban areas through its province-wide network and Committees.
The Primary Roles of ACA are to:
1. Identify and encourage relevant areas of research and systematic compilation of information affecting Seniors;
2.To improve the quality of life, health and well-being of Seniors in Alberta by undertaking research and public education regarding current and emerging information relevant to Seniors;
3. To mobilize leadership, particularly among Seniors and Senior serving organizations, to prevent or address issues of aging, so as to relieve suffering or disability and improve Seniors' quality of life;
4. To print, publish and distribute publications related to aging;
5. To foster interagency liaison and co-operation and work with other organizations and businesses to address the needs of Seniors.
